Most people getting a kitchen done end up with two or three quotes that are impossible to compare. Different totals, different levels of detail, and no obvious way to tell which one is actually the better deal.

This is not a sales pitch dressed up as a favour. Plenty of people use it and go with someone else, which is fine. It is a useful thing we can do in half an hour, and it tends to come back around.



What we check

What we look for in a kitchen quote

We are not marking anyone else’s homework. Most quotes we see are written by people doing a decent job. The problem is that they are all written differently, so you cannot line them up against each other.

Here is what we go through:

  • Allowances. Which lines are real prices and which are placeholders, and what happens if you choose something dearer.
  • Exclusions. Appliances, tapware, flooring, making good, consent fees. The gaps are usually where the surprises live.
  • Scope. Whether demolition, rubbish removal and reconnection are actually in there.
  • Cabinetry and benchtop spec. Two quotes can both say “stone” and mean very different things.
  • Trades. Who books the plumber and the electrician, and whether that coordination is priced.
  • Timeline. Whether there is one, and whether it tells you how long you will be without a kitchen.
